Rustic Valentines Wood Sign

With Valentines Day nearly upon us, I realized I hadn't done any wood crafts for this special day.

ARGH!

I rummaged through my  numerous bags of wood (which, may I add,  I in a tiny apartment, I have them in every  spare spot I can find). I found just the right sized piece of rough wood and what's more, This whole project only took me  30 minutes to make.

Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeezy!

I started with my piece of wood, some red acrylic paint and a brush

Squirt some paint into a pot, add a little water, give it a stir.

(The look I wanted is a wash of color)

Once dried, I chalked the word 'Love', then painted over using white acrylic.

I predrilled some holes before I painted the word Love on. I used some copper wire to use to hang it.

I poked the wire through and using a pliers, I bent it into a heart shape.  Then, before you feed the end through the other side, I wound the copper wire around a round wood dowel, then finish off  like the other side.

And there you have a quick homemade Valentines Wood Sign.

I switched out, a chalkboard painted picture frame. 

So my new Valentines sign can take pride of place

Sitting on my Pallet shelf.

Rustic Wood Christmas Door Sign

Nadolig Llawen - Merry Christmas

For those who don't speak Welsh, Nadolig Llawen means, Merry Christmas.

I wanted something different for my front door this year, not the usual wreath, don't get me wrong, I love wreath's, but it was time for a change and a quick one at that. 

I started with, heat treated wood, I purchased from Ace Hardware. The wood actually came in a large bundle of firewood. (Made by the Amish)

Then using Elmers Glue or store brand White Glue,  spread it over the wood and leave until it's tacky.

Then once it's tacky, load your brush up with white paint, and in long strokes, brush on the paint. Don't go back over what you just did. You will see within minutes, the cracking effect takes place.

Continue until the wood has had the 1st coat. Leave to dry and continue the same process, glue then, paint, till you have the desired effect.

I forgot to take the final picture. But in the picture below you can see the color.

 I  traced the words using chalk onto the wood, then paint over letters, in Red.

Then did a quick and simple snowflake design.

Then predrilled holes to hang it from.

I love the misshaped wood.

Then using White Glue & Glitter, trace over the snowflake and Christmas Trees.

I did light blobs on the tree, to make it look like snow had fallen on the branches.

Sprinkle the Glitter all over the glue and leave to completely dry, then tap off any loose glitter.

Add some wired 'S' from craft wire and thread through the holes and then using chain link 

Attach the 2 signs together. Add a Burlap bow and your good to hang your new quick Rustic sign up.

Rustic Thanksgiving Sign

'TIS The Season'

For

Giving Thanks

November is the month we 'Give Thanks'

So with that in mind, my craft minded, mind  (gosh 3 mind's in that sentence, oops now 4 lol)

Set in motion to see what I can come up with for my front 'porchish' display.

Albeit, there's not much I can do with College Student Apartments & 'Fire Hazard'

So my display had to be on the smaller scale.

I'd picked up some wood crates a while back from my local grocery store 3 for $10 !! What a steal. Which I used & I also found a tall Wooden Ladder at the local thrift store for $5 !! Again a steal, ESP as I have wanted a Wooden Ladder since seeing in used as Home Decor! Which I will do 'When we have our own home' once Jason is done with his Masters.

I set up my front display and knew there was something missing.

What was missing? A Simple Wording Sign. And this is a quick and easy sign to make It took me
 30 MINUTES TO MAKE!!

So rummaging through my wood pile (albeit small) I found a piece which would work for what I wanted to use for my sign.

 I gave the wood a very light spray of Ivory Primer & Paint first.

Then using the cheapest Walmart Spray Paint, I gave the wood 3 coats and let it dry.

Once dried, I marked where I wanted to drill my holes for the twine.

I threaded the Twine and knotted it.

I tied the twine, big enough so it wouldn't slip through the hole.

Once you have done the one side, do the same for the side.

I then used simple chalk and drew my outline.

The using my White Bistro Chalk Marker, I filled my wording in.
