My Writing -- Worth it?

This is my homework assignment taken from, my Mastering Dialogue Class - which is part of Creative Writing Now Course that I'm currently taking. For this homework we had to write without using subtext 'what' the issue/problem is etc.

If you can't quite get 'what' Peter & Jenny are talking about, the hint is when Peter turns on the radio :) Can you guess what they are talking about?

WORTH IT?

“So, I've arranged for us to go meet with Gill, at 3pm.”

“Oh." Jessy's grip tightened around the broom handle, "Okay, sounds good."

“Do you want to call the sitter and ask her to pick Jack up from school? Peter kicked off his shoes, and set the pile of paperwork on the table.

Jenny rolled her eyes, “Um, sure, I guess so.” She glanced at his dirty shoes laying on her clean floor. Bending down, she swept the pile of crumbs up.

“You guess so? Peter opened the fridge, grabbed a beer, pulled back the tab and took a long swig. “Ah... Just what I needed. You know we don't have all the time in the world to get this sorted out.” He sat down at the table, and spread the paperwork across it.

“Sorry Hun. I've just been so busy with arranging and cleaning the house. I've been at it all day and I'm a little worn out.” She tipped the full dustpan into the trash. “Give me five, then I give the sitter a call.”

“When you have a minute, come take a look at these, we have to take our top three with us, when we meet with Gill.”

Wrapping the telephone cord around her finger, pulling it a little tighter each time, she answered, “Sure Hun.” She hung up the phone, grabbed her glass of water, walked over to the dinner table and sat next to Peter, “SO... What do we have here?” She scanned the numerous printouts, as a sigh escaped her lips.

“This is so exciting, don't you think.” He looked at his wife. Huh, she did look a little tired, maybe she has been working hard lately, he thought. He smiled, “This will change everything for the better, I'd say, don't you agree?” Then he took another long swig of his beer.

She picked up a couple of pictures, scrunched her eyebrows as she scrutinized them,“These look good, don't you think?”

“Nice, but not quite to my liking. We don't have much time before we need to leave.” He shuffled some pictures around, picked up two, “How about these? They look great, don't you think.”

She glanced at the three pictures in his hands, smiled, "Nice." She tilted her head a little, her eyes watched as a squirrel scurried across the grass and ran up the tree.

“How about these two, Jen? They look good, ticks off everything we're looking for, don't you think? Um...  Should we just take the first three or take all five?”

Her fingers picked and twisted at the hem of her shirt, “They look wonderful, let's take all five, we can make the final decision at Gills.” Her eyes fell upon the flower beds and how her careful planning last spring had paid off this summer, as the vibrant pops of color encircled the whole garden's edge.

Peter slipped his shoes back on, grabbed the paperwork, “Okay, grab your things,” he scooped up his keys and cell, “If we don't leave now, we'll get stuck in school traffic.” No answer, he spoke louder,  "Jenny, are you listening?” He quizzed.

Hearing her name, broke her reverie, “Huh, did you say something?” She glanced in Peter's direction.

“Earth to Mrs. Daydream... Go grab your purse and let's head out.” He chuckled.

Peter looked at Jenny, her eyes did seem a little darker, maybe she should get more sleep he thought. “You go get your shoes on, I'll grab your purse and meet you in the truck.”

Jenny stood up off her chair, put the half empty glass in the sink and gave it a quick swill, leaving it to dry on the side. She then ambled her way down the hallway, glancing at the photographs that hung on the wall. Opening the door to the coat closet, she popped her pumps on and headed outside. Just as she stepped onto the front porch, Peter honked the horn.

“I'ma coming, Geez hold your horses!” She hollered, then followed with a quick smile.

“What took you so long? How long does it take to put a pair of shoes on?” He backed the truck out of the driveway and down the street.

Running her hand across the leather dash, she asked, “Will you miss this?”

With a quick glance at her, he answered, “Nope... I can't wait. This will be amazing, I mean, come on Jen, look at the opportunity were having, no-one get this chance every day.” He grabbed her hand, lifted it to his lips and placed a quick kiss upon it. “You've got to agree, this is a once in a lifetime deal, let's just embrace it.”

Her other hand gripped the side of the seat, her fingernails dug into the leather, “Yeah, you're right. We won't get another chance like this, do you think Jack, will like it?”

“For sure. I mean, who wouldn't like it. This is going to be quite the adventure and well worth it.” Peter turned the radio on then started to sing along with the song that played, “London Calling to the faraway towns...”

Peter was clearly enjoying singing along with the song, so, Jenny turned her head, watched the trees whiz by, as fresh tears quietly trickled down her cheeks.

Homemade White Board Calender

In the past I've bought white board calendars and if you're like me, I find them to be a little small for what I need. With that in mind and my old one taking early retirement in the trash, it was time I made my own.

I bought a cheap plexiglass picture frame. $11.99 on sale at hobby lobby.
I went with a long and narrow size, as I had a certain space for it.

I disassembled it and using the cardboard backing, I painted it

Use three coats, leaving drying time in between coats.
Use any white paint.

Hanging above my calender, are birthday tags, which are super easy to make.

Pre bought wood shape, form hobby lobby for $1.47 a pack pre drill holes to hang them from

Paint both sides, using Chalkpaint. (which I already had) Three times each side -- remember to alternate which way you paint each time, that way you have a smooth  chalkboard surface.

Once the paint has dried on your whiteboard, it's time to mark out the squares.
(I actually made a template on a separate piece of paper before hand)

Measure equal squares

Draw your lines

Then, draw your squares and header for the month.

I used a black paint pen to outline the squares and the days of the week etc.
I also added a cute saying along the top, which says:
Count your many blessings, name them one by one.

Once my birthday tags were dry, I painted the Month, using a white paint pen I used chalk soapstone and wrote all my family birthdays on them.
I bought my chalk soapstone from Crate & Barrel for $1.50 each! Needless to say I bought a ton, and I love how easy they write, you can sharpen them easily, and they rub off with ease.

I screwed little hook's into my shelf and hung my birthday tags up, using simple twine.

There you have it,  a cheaper, they way I wanted it White board Calender for $16.50

Homemade Whiteboard Calender

Easy to read and write on, wipe off, using whiteboard markers.

Super easy, afternoon craft.

Dracula Untold 2014

Are we ready for yet another Vampire movie?

My answer is, bring it on!

I love vampire movies, and I try to watch them when they come out.
When I went to see the Transformers; Age of Extintion last night, (which was good - tons of non-stop action) I was somewhat bored with the pre-views, until I saw Luke Evans (Achem, A Welsh Boy, may I add) smoldering on screen in the new 'Dracula Untold' Movie, which comes to the screen in October this year.

Now,  I watched in awe at the amazing special effects, and Luke's  strong demeanor as he played Dracula.
I, SO look forward to watching this version. And as I see it, watching this movie can only help with my creative writing flow, as I work on my vampire novel. (We writers have to keep up with all the new forms of Vampire Movies, that  keeps being put out there in movies.)

Take a look at the official trailer and see for yourself.

My Daughter, Lauries Wedding

Time flies by and when you live thousands of miles away from your loved ones, time flies much quicker.

Yesterday,  Saturday, June 28th
My 3rd sweet daughter, Laurie Helen Drew, married her sweetheart Liam.

To see and say, Hi to my Laurie xx

Vintage Window Frame Decor

I've been wanting to buy an old vintage window for ages now.

And, when I was having one of those days (no chocolate in da house days)
I just had to get out and about and I headed to Odana Antique Store, here in Madison.

A store where, if I had tons and tons of money and a house, is where I would easily spend a LOT
Of money there, for decor for our place. But today I just wanted an old window frame.

Here, is my vintage window frame, all gray and lifeless.

Still, sporting it's lovely sharp thingy's (Sorry, I don't know what those things are)
But they hold the pain of glass in. I removed them all and scraped off all the old dried putty. Then I gave it a quick white wash with white paint and let it dry.

Once dried, I applied a mix of burnt umber brown paint and black.
And applied it in the nooks and crannies.

Then with a dry thick brush, I applied that brown/black paint mix all over.
Leaving it to dry.

Now comes the fun part.
Apply Mod Podge Glue all over and leave until it feels tacky.

One the glue is tacky, work quickly. Load your paint brush in Acrylic White Paint
And apply all over the glue, making sure you go in ONE direction. Don't be tempted to go back over the paint.

It will and can look like this. Don't worry. The trick of this technique is that you're making the paint crack.
That way it looks like a chippy, old window frame. Once you have done this allow to dry.
You can see the paint crack - it's cool to see.

You can see the paint, crack :)

Next I painted a single plank of wood in the same manner, and let that to dry.
This will become my shelf.

Once my shelf was dry, I measured where to put my shelf brackets.
 And screwed them in.

Once I screwed the brackets onto the shelf, I screwed them down onto
The Window frame.

I added a cast iron handle at its bottom.

Hung up the Antique Window Frame and placed books, and Nik-naks for decor.
And a wreath, with a key hanging in its center.

I made a quick picture frame and adding some burlap from a Cocoa sack.
