Simple No Sew Fleece Capes

The Disney movie Frozen has become quite the regular guest in our home of late. Seren and Carys love to sing along to all the songs and adore Elsa and Anna and anything related to the characters.

In my church, (LDS) I help organize the ladies monthly activities and they can range from Hot cocoa and book swap to an auction service. However, for this month we are giving service by making scarves from fleece fabric for, The Road Home Project here in Madison. Along with making the scarves, I will be helping any of the sisters who want to make a no sew fleece cape.

Although, I had to make one or two or three first :)

The purple one is Seren's Batgirl cape :)
For this one, I just did the same as in the Joann's Craft YouTube video

First, I started with, yes, you guessed Frozen themed fleece!

I actually added and extra piece of fleece to the top on the Frozen capes.  You follow the same directions as you did for the cape. Then lay the smaller piece over the main one and thread the ribbon through both at once.

All I did was measure the same length as the cape, but the width was for Seren aged 4, I cut it at 10' wide, by the same length as the main fleece cape. For Carys, aged 2, I cut it a little smaller, at 8".

Then I gave both edges a scalloped cut.

And made my cuts and threaded the ribbon
And Viola, easy no sew fleece capes.

My girls, having fun outside, with their fleece capes.

Drop Cloth Easter Bunnies

What's up Doc?

EASTER!!
That's what's up doc :)

I love my little Bunnies with their buck front teeth!

So this past week I have been in overdrive mode for making
Easter Crafts.

With plenty of scarps of painter's drop cloth from Walmart - which, may I add is a must in my fabric draw, it's cheap and versatile.

Here is how I made my Bunnies.

I literally drew a bunny on the drop cloth - you can see my lines!
This was my template

Lay your bunny template down and trace around then cut out.
You will need  back and a front for each bunny.

Next, you are going to sew around the bunny
BUT DON'T SEW  THE BOTTOM YET!

Time to stuff your bunny with some craft stuffing filler.
Make sure you stuff the ears first.

Don't stuff all the way, leave 1/3 unstuffed. Set bunny aside

We're going to make bean bags to put inside the bunny.
(This will give the bunny's bottom some weight)

I used split peas.

Cutting some rectangles - I'm going to make a little bag

Sew along the edge, leaving one side open then fill with split peas

Fold the raw edges in, then sew it up.

Pick up your part stuffed bunny and pop the bean bag inside.

Fill any gaps with stuffing and sew the edge up

Now to paint the bunny ears. Take some pink paint and paint!

And a small little pink pain for it's cheeks and dot where its nose will go.
Leave to dry.

Take some black thread and black shoe buttons.

Sew on the eyes.
Now, my bunny kinda looks like a whisker-less cat at the moment!! UGH

Now, when I use Burlap wrap, I always keep the little ends.

As these little scraps make great bunny whiskers!!
Thread a large eye needle with one thread and sew through and knot together.
My bunny really looks like a CAT now!! ARGH - time to do a little art work on my bunnies

Flip around and sew a white pom-pom on for the bunny's tail.

I painted a little white to define my bunny's cheeks and black dots by its whiskers
&
White buck teeth, then outlined with black.
Add a bow for my girl bunny and a spiffy tie for my boy bunny.

Time for pictures Bunnies!!

Quick Easter Bunny Cushion Covers

If you want some quick Easter Bunny color to add to your home,
These quick drop cloth, cushion covers
Can be made in one day.

I made pillow style cushion covers, from a painter's drop cloth

Take some cardboard and pop inside the covers. This will protect the underside of the cover
While you paint on the bunnies.

This is my Bunny Template

Trace around the bunny template onto the cover.

Take some pretty spring colors

And paint inside the line

Leave to dry.

For my single bunny I used my original template, but enlarged it.

Larger Bunny Template

Trace around the bunny template & paint.
And leave to dry.
Once the paint has dried you can take out the cardboard. Then taking some white pom-pom's and thread and sew on the pom-pom for the bunny tail.

For the Larger Bunny Cover I cut a round piece of felt and took 8 white pom-poms

And used a hot glue gun and glued the pom-poms onto the felt, Then glued the bottom side of the craft felt
On to the bunny for its tail.
