So my day yesterday was spent indulging in watching the BBC period drama, Death Comes to Pemberely  on PBS Masterpiece (Which is only playing for a limited time on PBS) whilst making Cary's new beanie hat.

Superheroes To The Rescue

What do you do when your little girl loves Superheroes and Princesses.

Make a pink superhero cape... And that's what I did today.

I found a wonderful online site that had a free Cape pattern you can find it HERE

I will add I altered the cape a little, I didn't like how the ends of the Cape came to a point.

So, I rounded them off instead.

Here is Seren proudly showing off her Pink Superhero Cape!

Now Carys, not to leave her out, I used the left over bits of fabric and made

A Princess Cape. It is shorter and narrower than Seren's, but it does the job.

I had to join pieces of fabric together and we used an old T-shirt

Which we cut out the Belle.

Ready, Set, Fly!

A little fuzzy, but hey, Carys was flying!

Even sand doesn't deter our Superhero Girls :)

The capes have turned out to be a great and well worth my morning spent sewing them

Now, Seren is now asking for, a Batman one! 

Sheesh :)  I'd best get shopping for more fabric.

The total cost for the two capes was $17.

Crocheted Fingerless Gloves

I always like to learn something new. And this past weekend, I tried my hand at crocheting Fingerless Gloves.

I loved how they turned out, and it only took me an evening to make them.

I found the pattern HERE

The difference, I added a scalloped edge,  a crochet flower and a button.

Perfect fit!

I tried them out yesterday, while out shopping. They kept my hands quite warm, yet having the ability to pick things up much easier :)

Chalkboard Picture Frames - Trick or Treat

  BOO! YA...

 Chalkboard Picture frames are super easy to make.

I have a spot in our kitchen that was begging for...something. I had some picture frames, I found at the local thrift store St. Vincent de Paul for $1.50 each. What a sweet deal.

First I gave took the glass out from the back and washed it. Then gave it one coat of Chalkboard paint and let it dry for 4 hours before giving it a 2nd coat.

*TIP: when applying 2nd coat, do it in the opposite direction of the 1st coat.

Next I spray painted the frames with black 'Krylon Primer & Paint' in a can and let them dry. I only did one coat.

When the frames were dry, I used Ivory 'Krylon Primer & Paint' in a can, over the black and let that dry. Giving a total of two lighter coats.

When the frames were completely dry, I used steel wool, to distress the wood around the edges. ( Forgot pictures of this stage- but you can see how it looks in the finished picture)

After 3 days - allowing the chalk paint to dry completely, I conditioned it, by simply rubbing chalk all over the board and then erasing it. Then you're ready to do chalk art!

I love how mine turned out - and what's great about it, is all you do is simply wipe off & do more art for every holiday or a favorite quote.

I used a small screw at the top of the cabinet door and Command Velcro Strips for the bottom, enabling me to still open & close the door.
